Hotel Victoria
An old hotel that looks straight across the harbour basin, with tall windows that frame the ferries and fishing boats coming in.
Draw the curtains and the harbour is right there: boats sliding in to the quay, gulls on the railings, the old warehouses across the water. Hotel Victoria has stood at the head of Vågen for generations and is among the oldest hotels in Stavanger.
The building has kept its sense of scale, with lofty rooms and a grand staircase, while the lobby is low-lit and cosy. Skagen, the cluster of streets behind the quay full of bars and restaurants, is on your doorstep, and Old Stavanger is a short walk round the water.

Picolo’s verdict
Why we chose Hotel Victoria
We picked Victoria for its position and its character. Few hotels put you so squarely on the harbour, and the old building gives the stay a sense of place that the newer chain hotels in town cannot copy.
It is a historic hotel, not a modern one. Bathrooms are modest, there is no pool, and the harbour can be lively on weekend nights, so anyone who wants contemporary design and total silence should look elsewhere.
