The Hotel Britomart
Timber, brick and a restaurant cooking with local produce, in the restored warehouse streets of Britomart a block back from the harbour.
The lobby smells of wood, and the walls are warm brick. The Hotel Britomart sits in the Britomart precinct, a few blocks of restored buildings close to the waterfront that have become the place to eat and drink in central Auckland.
The hotel was built with sustainability in mind, from the materials to the menu, and the restaurant leans on New Zealand produce. A handful of suites have their own roof terrace, the kind of room worth asking about for a special occasion.

Picolo’s verdict
Why we chose The Hotel Britomart
This is our design choice in Auckland. It is small enough to feel personal, the rooms feel natural rather than corporate, and you step out into some of the best bars and restaurants in the city.
That nightlife has a cost: rooms facing the street can be loud on Friday and Saturday nights. Light sleepers should request a room away from the street, or choose Park Hyatt for a quieter waterfront stay.
