InterContinental Auckland
A new tower on the downtown waterfront, where you can watch the ferries come and go from your window and be on one within minutes.
From the window, the ferries pull in and out of the terminal just below, heading for Devonport, Waiheke and the other islands. InterContinental Auckland is among the most recent luxury openings in the city, a glass tower right on the edge of the harbour.
Everything is new, and the location could hardly be more central. Commercial Bay, the shopping and dining complex on the waterfront, sits next door, which makes it easy to eat well without planning ahead.

Picolo’s verdict
Why we chose InterContinental Auckland
We picked it for convenience done well. On the first night after a long-haul flight, or the last night before one, it is hard to beat a modern room with a harbour view and the whole city centre on your doorstep.
The feel is polished but leans towards business travel, so it has less personality than the smaller hotels in town. If character matters more than a central address, look at The Hotel Britomart or Hotel DeBrett instead.
