La Sultana Marrakech

  • Kasbah
  • Saadian Tombs
  • Heated pool
  • Spa
  • Roof terrace

A heated pool in one courtyard, carved cedar in the next, and the Saadian Tombs just over the wall in the quiet south of the medina.

In the morning the queue for the Saadian Tombs forms outside, and inside La Sultana the courtyards are still. The tombs, royal mausoleums from the sixteenth century, are the hotel's closest neighbour.

La Sultana is several riads linked into one, with columns, carved cedar and rooms that are larger than most in the medina. One courtyard holds a heated pool, and a wide roof terrace stretches over the whole property.

Picolo’s verdict

Why we chose La Sultana Marrakech

It gives you the feel of a riad with the comforts of a full hotel: a pool you can actually use, a spa and space to spread out. The Kasbah, the old royal quarter, is calmer than the lanes near the main square.

The souks are at the other end of the medina, and Jemaa el-Fnaa is roughly a twenty-minute walk. If you want to step straight into the markets, stay further north, and plan on taxis after dark.

What you get

  • Heated pool in a courtyard
  • Spa
  • Large roof terrace
  • Rooms more spacious than most riads
  • Restaurant on site
