One&Only Le Saint Géran

  • Peninsula
  • Lagoon and ocean
  • Spa
  • Tennis
  • Full service

A thin strip of sand between two kinds of water: the flat turquoise lagoon to one side, the reef and the open Indian Ocean to the other.

Early in the morning the peninsula belongs to the joggers and the herons. On one side the lagoon lies flat and pale, on the other the waves break white against the reef, and the palms lean over a beach that runs almost the full length of the resort.

Le Saint Géran has been here since the 1970s, which shows in how settled it feels. There is a large spa, tennis courts and a handful of restaurants, and the staff are used to guests who return every winter and expect to be remembered.

Picolo’s verdict

Why we chose One&Only Le Saint Géran

We chose it because it is the benchmark for the classic Mauritius resort: an exceptional setting, a long beach and service that runs like clockwork. If you want everything taken care of without leaving the grounds, few hotels on the island do it as well.

It is expensive, and the bill keeps growing once you add meals and drinks, so check the half-board rates before you book. It is also traditional in style. If you want something young, informal or design-led, look elsewhere on the east coast.

What you get

  • Long beach along the whole peninsula
  • Calm lagoon on one side, open ocean on the other
  • Large spa
  • Several restaurants on site
  • Full-service luxury resort

A day at One&Only Le Saint Géran

Morning
A barefoot walk out to the tip of the peninsula while the sand is still cool.
Midday
A paddle across the lagoon, which stays calm even when the ocean side is rough.
Afternoon
A game of tennis once the sun drops behind the palms, then a treatment in the spa.
Evening
Dinner by the water, with the lagoon going dark and quiet in front of you.

Questions about One&Only Le Saint Géran

Yes. The resort sits on a peninsula with sand along its length, so you can choose between the sheltered lagoon side for swimming and the ocean side for a walk with more wind and waves.

Yes, meals and drinks are priced at luxury-resort level, and there is little outside the gates within walking distance. Compare room-only and half-board rates before you book, as the package often works out cheaper.

Couples and families who want a classic, full-service resort and are happy to spend most of the holiday on site. It suits people who value polished service more than a young or informal atmosphere.
