Picolo recommends · Hotel in Grand Gaube, Mauritius
LUX* Grand Gaube
Two small beaches on a point at the top of Mauritius, with the offshore islands lined up on the horizon and a rum bar for the evening.
From the point at Grand Gaube you can see the islands of the north strung out across the sea, with the flat-topped wedge of Coin de Mire the easiest to pick out. The hotel wraps around the peninsula, with a small beach on either side.
Inside, it is bright and modern, full of colour rather than the usual resort beige. There are several restaurants, a large spa and a rum bar that gets busy after dinner, which gives the place more evening energy than most on the island.

Picolo’s verdict
Why we chose LUX* Grand Gaube
We chose it for its sense of fun. The food is good, the design has personality and there is always something happening in the evening, which suits couples and friends who like a bit of life around them.
The beaches are small compared with the long stretches on the east coast, and they can feel busy when the hotel is full. If a big beach is the priority, Belle Mare is the better bet.

Are the beaches big at LUX* Grand Gaube?
No, the hotel has two small beaches on a peninsula. They are pleasant, but if you want a long stretch of sand the east coast has more.
