Picolo recommends · Hotel in Sliema, Malta
The Palace Sliema
A modern hotel a few streets back from the Sliema seafront, with a rooftop pool that looks across the roofs to Valletta’s domes.
From the pool on the roof you look over Sliema’s flat rooftops to the domes and spires of Valletta across the water. Down at street level, it is an ordinary town block with a bakery and a pharmacy close by.
That slightly inland position is the reason for the price: you pay less than at the seafront hotels and get a modern room and a good breakfast. The ferry to Valletta and the island’s buses leave from just down the hill.

Picolo’s verdict
Why we chose The Palace Sliema
We chose it as a sensible, well-run base for seeing Malta without paying seafront prices. The rooftop pool and the view to Valletta give it more character than most hotels in its class.
It is efficient rather than romantic. Rooms do not face the sea, and the street outside is busy in the daytime, so this is a base for exploring rather than a place to spend whole days.
