Hotel Gutenbergs
An old house on Dome Square with a summer roof terrace that looks straight at the cathedral tower, for less than the big names charge.
Open the window in the morning and you hear the square waking up: cups on café tables, then the cathedral bells. Gutenbergs is an old house facing Dome Square, right in the middle of the Old Town.
Rooms are snug rather than grand. In summer the roof terrace opens, and from up there the cathedral tower fills the view, which is the reason most people book.

Picolo’s verdict
Why we chose Hotel Gutenbergs
Gutenbergs is our value pick in Riga. You get the most central address in the city and a terrace with a cathedral view for noticeably less than the luxury hotels, which suits couples and friends who will be out all day.
Dome Square is lively at weekends and packed during the Christmas market. Light sleepers and anyone wanting a hushed retreat should look at Grand Palace Hotel or Hotel Bergs instead.
