Mara Serena Safari Lodge
From the pool on the hilltop the plains roll away towards the Mara River, where the herds gather for the crossings in season.
The lodge sits high on a ridge, and the terrace gives you the whole sweep of grassland below. Its domed buildings borrow their shapes from traditional Maasai homesteads, which helps them sit quietly in the landscape.
The Mara River runs close by, and with it the crossing points where wildebeest plunge into the water during the migration. The western part of the reserve, often called the Mara Triangle, is within easy reach.

Picolo’s verdict
Why we chose Mara Serena Safari Lodge
We chose Mara Serena for families and for travellers who would rather sleep behind walls than canvas. The view is one of the best in the reserve, and the river crossings are near.
It is a large lodge, and the atmosphere is more hotel than camp. Rooms without a view are a letdown here, so make the request when you book, and expect company at the pool.
