Kibo Safari Camp

  • Safari tents
  • Kilimanjaro view
  • Pool
  • Game drives
  • Good value

Tents under the trees just outside Amboseli, where you unzip the flap at dawn and Kilimanjaro may be standing there clear.

Step out of your tent at first light and, if the sky is kind, the snow cap of Kilimanjaro rises above the plain. Kibo Safari Camp lies just beyond the park boundary, with its tents spread out beneath the trees.

Game drives head into Amboseli in the morning and again in the afternoon. Between them there is a pool and a restaurant, and in the evening guests gather around the fire.

Picolo’s verdict

Why we chose Kibo Safari Camp

It is a sensible way to see Amboseli and its elephants without paying for one of the most expensive camps. You get the famous mountain view, guided drives and a pool for the hot middle of the day.

The tents are plainer than at the top safari camps in Kenya, so do not expect luxury touches. And Kilimanjaro is often hidden by cloud later in the day, so set your alarm.
