Su Gologone
An old farmstead at the foot of the mountains in inland Sardinia, where lamb and suckling pig turn slowly over an open fire for dinner.
Smoke from the fire, the smell of roasting meat and bare mountains rising behind the garden: Su Gologone feels a long way from the beach clubs on the coast. The old farm buildings are filled with art and local crafts.
This is the base for seeing a different Sardinia. Mountain walks, the Gorropu gorge and the painted village of Orgosolo are all nearby, and the restaurant is a reason to come in itself, cooking Sardinian dishes over an open flame.

Picolo’s verdict
Why we chose Su Gologone
We chose it because it shows the side of the island most visitors never see. Couples and families come here for food, walks and culture, a few beach-free days on a longer trip.
Be realistic about the distance. The coves on the east coast are about an hour away by car, so this is a stop on a longer trip, not the place for a pure beach holiday.
