Picolo recommends · Hotel in Rome, Italy
Palazzo Manfredi
A small luxury hotel directly opposite the Colosseum, where the rooftop restaurant looks straight into the arches of the amphitheatre.
Palazzo Manfredi is on Via Labicana, just across the road from the Colosseum, in a palazzo built above the remains of the Ludus Magnus, the ancient training school for gladiators. You can see the excavated ruins from the street.
The rooftop restaurant and bar are the place to be at dusk, when the floodlights come on in the arches. Rooms are contemporary and comfortable, and Monti's wine bars and trattorias are a short walk uphill.

Picolo’s verdict
Why we chose Palazzo Manfredi
We chose Palazzo Manfredi for one simple reason: the view. Few hotels in Rome can put the Colosseum this close to your table, and the comfort and service hold up to that promise.
The streets around the hotel carry heavy traffic and have little evening life of their own. For lanes and neighbourhood feel you need to walk into Monti or take a taxi to the centro storico.
