Hotel Spadari al Duomo
A short street off the cathedral square, a deli full of cheese and hams next door, and a lobby where contemporary art hangs on every wall.
Via Spadari is a small street a couple of minutes west of the cathedral, and the shop windows of Peck, Milan's famous food hall, are right beside the hotel door. Locals come here for parmesan and prosciutto, not for the sights.
The hotel is small and run by a family, and it shows. Art and furniture made specially for the house fill the rooms and corridors, and the people at reception tend to remember your name and your questions.

Picolo’s verdict
Why we chose Hotel Spadari al Duomo
We recommend Spadari for a first trip to Milan when you want to be central without paying grand hotel rates. The Duomo is moments away, Brera an easy walk, and the welcome is personal.
Rooms are modern and tidy but on the small side, and there is no restaurant in the hotel. If you want a pool, a spa or space to spread out, look at the larger hotels nearby.
