Hotel Milano Scala
Breakfast on the roof, with tomatoes and herbs growing beside you and the spires of the Duomo rising over the Brera tiles.
Via dell'Orso runs along the edge of Brera, and La Scala opera house is just a couple of streets away. The hotel was designed to use as little energy as possible, and its roof is given over to a kitchen garden of vegetables and herbs.
Up there, breakfast is served on a terrace looking across the Brera roofs to the cathedral, and some of what you eat may have grown a few metres away. Each floor below carries a musical theme, a nod to the opera house round the corner.

Picolo’s verdict
Why we chose Hotel Milano Scala
We recommend Milano Scala to families and to anyone who wants to stay in Brera without paying luxury rates. Rooms are generous for Milan, some connect, and the staff take children in their stride.
The decor is traditional, with music references on every floor, which some will find a little theatrical. If clean lines and minimal design matter to you, Viu or the Armani are closer to your taste.
