Bulgari Hotel Milano
Through a gate on a private lane, the city gives way to lawns and old trees, a few hundred metres from the most expensive shop windows in Milan.
The hotel lies on a private lane between Brera and Via Montenapoleone. Behind the gate is a former convent and a garden of lawns and mature trees, land that was once part of the neighbouring botanical garden.
Inside, the materials are warm: oak, travertine and soft fabrics in earthy tones. The bar opens onto the garden and fills with Milanese after work, and downstairs the spa pool shimmers in gold mosaic.

Picolo’s verdict
Why we chose Bulgari Hotel Milano
We chose the Bulgari for a weekend for two, when the garden and the bar count as much as the room. Very few hotels in central Milan can offer this much green and quiet so close to the shops.
It is very expensive, and the mood is discreet rather than lively. If you want to see and be seen, or you are travelling on a budget, other hotels on this list will suit you better.
