Le Sirenuse
A red family house in the middle of Positano, where the terraces look straight across the rooftops to the tiled church dome.
Step out onto a terrace at Le Sirenuse and Positano falls away beneath you in pastel layers, with the church dome glinting below. The house has belonged to one family for generations and still feels like a home rather than a resort.
Rooms are dressed with antique furniture and cool ceramic floors, and the pool sits among the terraces. The lanes with their shops and restaurants begin at the front door, so the village is yours on foot.

Picolo’s verdict
Why we chose Le Sirenuse
It is the classic Positano address and one of the most famous hotels in the country. For a first visit, with a partner and a generous budget, it is hard to choose more safely. The bar terrace at dusk alone justifies a night.
You pay heavily for the name and the view, and rates sit at the top of the coast. Reaching the beach means stairs, and so does coming back. Travellers who want a quiet retreat away from the village crowds should look elsewhere.
