Picolo recommends · Hotel in Positano, Amalfi Coast, Italy
Il San Pietro
A hotel carved into the rock east of Positano, where a lift drops through the cliff to a bathing platform at the water.
From the road you see almost nothing of Il San Pietro. The hotel is set into the mountainside, its terraces spilling with flowers, and a lift runs down through the rock to a private spot for swimming at sea level.
Positano lies a short drive away, and a hotel shuttle covers it. Between the restaurant, the pool and the sea below, plenty of guests simply stay put all day and only head into the village after dark.

Picolo’s verdict
Why we chose Il San Pietro
This is our romantic choice on the coast: peaceful, discreet and set in one of the finest positions anywhere along it. Couples who want privacy and luxury in equal measure will find it hard to beat.
You are not in Positano itself, so evenings in the village depend on the shuttle or a taxi. If you want to wander out of the door into lanes and shops, a central hotel will suit you better.
