The Westbury

  • Grafton Street
  • Afternoon tea
  • First-floor lounge
  • Spacious rooms
  • City centre

Climb the wide staircase from the street door and the shopping crowds drop away, replaced by a lounge set for afternoon tea.

The doors open onto a quiet lane, but the hotel proper begins one floor up. A broad flight of stairs takes you to a lounge where the windows look down on Grafton Street and the tea comes on tiered stands.

That small lift above the street is the whole idea. You are in the middle of Dublin's main shopping district, with St Stephen's Green and Trinity College close by, yet the rooms are generous and the corridors hushed.

Picolo’s verdict

Why we chose The Westbury

The Westbury is our safe pick in the centre. The location is hard to beat, the rooms give you space to spread out, and afternoon tea in the lounge is a Dublin ritual you can take part in without leaving the building.

It is polished rather than personal. If you want a small hotel with quirks and a distinct personality, this will feel a little corporate, and the streets around it are given over to shops more than local life.

How close is The Westbury to Grafton Street?

It stands on a side street just off it, so the main shopping street is a few steps from the door while the hotel itself stays calm.

Can non-guests have afternoon tea at The Westbury?

The first-floor lounge is a popular spot for afternoon tea among Dubliners as well as guests. Booking ahead is wise at weekends and in December.

Is The Westbury good for a city break with shopping?

Very. The central shopping streets and department stores are around the corner, and a large room to drop your bags in makes a big difference.
