The Peninsula Hong Kong
A string quartet in the lobby, a line of green Rolls-Royces at the door and nearly a century of Hong Kong history in one building.
The doormen still wear white, and the cars waiting outside are painted the same deep green as they have been for decades. Step into the lobby and the noise of Kowloon falls away behind tall columns and gilded ceilings.
The Peninsula has been here since 1928, longer than any of the towers across the water. Ask for a room in the tower if the harbour matters to you, and save one evening for Felix, the restaurant at the top.

Picolo’s verdict
Why we chose The Peninsula Hong Kong
This is Hong Kong’s grand old address, and it still behaves like one. For an anniversary, a proposal or simply a sense of the city before the skyscrapers, nothing else in town carries the same weight.
It is formal, and it is priced accordingly. The lobby fills with day visitors queuing for tea, so the ground floor is rarely quiet. If you want sleek and modern, the newer hotels along the harbour will suit you better.
What you get
- Fleet of green Rolls-Royces
- Afternoon tea in the lobby
- Felix restaurant at the top of the tower
- Spa
- Tower rooms facing the harbour
A day at The Peninsula Hong Kong
- Morning
- Breakfast while the lobby is still calm, before the tea crowd arrives.
- Midday
- A walk down Nathan Road towards the old Kowloon streets.
- Afternoon
- Scones and tea under the gilded ceiling, if you queued in good time.
- Evening
- Dinner at Felix as the skyline lights up across the water.
