Perianth Hotel
Terrazzo floors, Greek-designed furniture and coffee bars at the door, on the small square where young Athens meets.
Morning on Agia Irini Square means espresso cups clinking at outdoor tables and a church bell next door. Perianth sits right here, in a modernist block that was refitted with terrazzo, marble and pieces by Greek designers.
The square lies between Monastiraki and Syntagma, so the old town is close, yet it feels like the Athens locals live in now. The suites at the top come with private terraces over the rooftops.

Picolo’s verdict
Why we chose Perianth Hotel
We chose it for travellers who care about design and want the city as Athenians use it. Coffee and wine bars are on the doorstep, and the interiors make a strong case for contemporary Greek craft.
The hotel is small, has no pool and serves only a modest breakfast, so if you want spa days and long buffets, it is not for you. In summer you will rely on the city, not the hotel, to cool off.
What you get
- Modernist building with terrazzo and marble
