NEW Hotel
A design hotel whose walls, lamps and reception desk were made by sawing up the furniture of the old hotel on the same site.
Run a hand along the wall in reception and you may be touching a former door or the back of an old chair. When this building was remade, the furniture of its predecessor was not thrown out but sliced up and pieced together into a new skin for the hotel.
The result is bright and a bit playful, and it takes a moment to get used to. Syntagma is a short walk up the street, Plaka starts around the corner, and the roof terrace gathers guests once the heat goes out of the day.

Picolo’s verdict
Why we chose NEW Hotel
We chose it because it is the boldest design statement among central Athens hotels. It suits travellers who want their room to have an idea behind it, and who like being between Syntagma and Plaka.
Those who prefer neutral, classic rooms may find it too much. There is no pool, which matters in July and August, and the hotel is on the smaller side, so do not expect resort facilities.

What is special about NEW Hotel in Athens?
Its interiors were made from the furniture of the hotel that previously stood on the site, cut up and rebuilt into walls, lights and the reception.
Does NEW Hotel have a pool?
No. There is a roof terrace for the evenings, but if a pool matters to you in summer, look at Electra Palace or Grande Bretagne instead.
How central is NEW Hotel?
Very. It is on Filellinon Street, a couple of blocks from Syntagma Square and right by the edge of Plaka, so most sights are on foot.
