A for Athens
Monastiraki Square under your window, the Acropolis above it, and one of the city's best-known rooftop bars upstairs.
Open the curtains in a room on the square side and the Acropolis is framed above the crowd on Monastiraki. Street musicians, the flea market stalls and the station entrance are all right below you.
Upstairs, the rooftop bar draws hotel guests and locals in roughly equal measure, and by sunset it is usually full. Rooms are modern and simple, and the Metro line to the airport stops beneath the building.

Why we chose A for Athens
For a first visit, this is our pick. You are at the heart of old Athens, you can walk to most sights, and getting to and from the airport by Metro could hardly be easier.
Monastiraki never really goes quiet, and the rooftop bar runs late. Light sleepers should bring earplugs or choose a calmer street. The rooms are functional rather than somewhere to spend the afternoon.
