Hotel Opera
Breakfast in a small courtyard on a summer morning, in a townhouse where every room is furnished differently with antiques.
In summer, breakfast moves out into the courtyard, and the only sound is cups on saucers. Hotel Opera fills an old townhouse in Lehel, a leafy, residential district between the old town and the river.
Each room has its own character, with antique furniture and heavy drapes that make it feel like staying in a private home. The Isar and the Englischer Garten, one of the largest city parks in Europe, are close by for morning walks.

Picolo’s verdict
Why we chose Hotel Opera
We like it for travellers who prefer a small, personal house to a big hotel. It is a romantic base for walking, and Lehel gives you a quieter, more local side of Munich.
There is no spa and no restaurant, and you are not in the old town itself. Marienplatz is about fifteen minutes on foot, or a short tram ride, which some will find a stretch.
