Picolo recommends · Hotel in Hamburg, Germany
Vier Jahreszeiten
A grand old facade on Neuer Jungfernstieg, looking straight across the Binnenalster to the fountain that throws water into the air.
Step out of the revolving door and the Binnenalster is right there, grey or silver depending on the sky, with the fountain shooting up from the middle and white Alster boats tying up a few minutes along the quay.
Inside, the hotel keeps to tradition: dark panelling, antique furniture and deep carpets underfoot. Ask for a room at the front and the lake fills the window. The town hall and the main shopping streets are all within an easy stroll.

Picolo’s verdict
Why we chose Vier Jahreszeiten
This is the address Hamburg itself thinks of first when it pictures a grand hotel. For a first visit, an anniversary or simply a weekend done properly, it puts you on the water and in the centre at once.
It is old school by design. If you want clean lines, a loud bar scene or a laid-back feel, the hotel will feel formal, and you will be happier in HafenCity or at Tortue.

Does Fairmont Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten have lake views?
Many rooms look over the Binnenalster. If the view matters, book a lake-facing category rather than leaving it to chance at check-in.
Is Fairmont Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten central?
Yes. It sits on Neuer Jungfernstieg in the middle of the city, so the Rathaus, shops and Alster boats are a short walk away.
Who is Fairmont Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten best for?
First-time visitors and anyone marking an occasion who likes a traditional grand hotel. Fans of modern design may prefer HafenCity.
