Michelberger Hotel
A former factory at Warschauer Straße, with rooms built from raw timber and a courtyard restaurant cooking with produce from the hotel’s own farm.
Step out of the door and the trains are rattling into Warschauer Straße. Michelberger sits in an old factory where Friedrichshain runs down to the Spree and the red-brick towers of the Oberbaumbrücke.
Inside, rooms are made from untreated wood and plain, clever fixes rather than luxury fittings. Out in the courtyard, the restaurant cooks with what grows on the hotel’s farm beyond the city, and the East Side Gallery is just down the road.

Picolo’s verdict
Why we chose Michelberger Hotel
We chose it for travellers who come for clubs, concerts and the creative side of Berlin. You get a lot of character for the money, and pay far less than a night in Mitte would cost.
Rooms are small, and the area around the station is loud and rough at the edges. If you want space to unpack and a calm street at night, look at Oderberger or Steinplatz instead.
What you get
- Courtyard restaurant using produce from its own farm

Is Michelberger Hotel near the East Side Gallery?
Yes. The longest surviving stretch of the Wall, covered in murals, runs along the Spree a short walk from the hotel.
Is Michelberger Hotel quiet?
Not especially. It sits beside a busy S-Bahn and U-Bahn station on a lively street, so bring earplugs if you sleep lightly.
Are the rooms at Michelberger Hotel large?
Most are compact. The design is simple and inventive, but there is not much floor space for big suitcases.
