Hotel Adlon Kempinski
Breakfast with the Brandenburg Gate filling the window, then a lobby with a piano and doormen that still treats a hotel stay as an occasion.
Open the curtains in a room facing the square and the Brandenburg Gate is right there. The Adlon sits on Pariser Platz, and the ground-floor restaurant shares the same view, so the city’s best-known landmark comes with your coffee.
Walk through the gate and the Reichstag and Tiergarten are on the other side, with the Holocaust Memorial a block south. Inside, the mood is formal in the old way: a pianist in the lobby, doormen at the entrance and guests who change for dinner.

Picolo’s verdict
Why we chose Hotel Adlon Kempinski
This is Berlin’s answer to the Savoy, and we chose it for travellers who want the whole ceremony. Few hotels in Europe sit this close to a landmark of this rank, and the service matches the setting.
Pariser Platz is one of the most visited squares in Germany, so expect tour groups outside from morning to evening. If you would rather have a smaller, more personal hotel, look at Das Stue or Orania instead.
