Das Stue
A curved stone embassy on the edge of Tiergarten, where some windows look straight into the zoo and the ostriches wander past.
From the bar you may catch an ostrich pacing behind the fence. Das Stue sits where Tiergarten meets the Zoologischer Garten, and one wing of the old Danish embassy faces the enclosures directly.
Stue means living room in Danish, and the lobby lives up to the name, with low lamps, art on the walls and sofas you sink into. The Brandenburg Gate lies at the far end of the park, a pleasant walk under the trees.

Picolo’s verdict
Why we chose Das Stue
We chose it for couples who want calm, good design and a park on the doorstep. It feels Scandinavian without trying too hard, and the zoo next door adds an odd touch you will remember.
It is out of the way. Kreuzberg’s bars are far off and the nearest U-Bahn station takes around ten minutes on foot, so if you plan to dart around the city all day, a more central base will save time.
What you get
- Former Danish embassy building
- Tiergarten on the doorstep
- Bar with a view into the zoo
- Quiet rooms, some facing the zoo
- Warm lobby lounge with art and deep sofas
A day at Das Stue

Can you see the zoo from Das Stue?
Yes, from some rooms and from the bar. One wing faces the Zoologischer Garten, so ask for that side if you want the animals in view.
How far is Das Stue from the nearest U-Bahn?
Roughly ten minutes on foot. Many guests walk through Tiergarten instead, or take a taxi for longer trips across the city.
Is Das Stue a good base for nightlife?
No. It is a quiet corner of the city, far from the bars of Kreuzberg and Friedrichshain, and suits a calm stay better than late nights.
