Hilton Moorea Lagoon Resort and Spa

  • Overwater bungalows
  • Lagoon
  • Cook's Bay
  • Opunohu Bay
  • Pool

Overwater bungalows on Moorea's north shore, between two deep bays, with jagged green peaks standing straight up behind the lagoon.

Step down the ladder from your deck and you are in the lagoon, with the mountains of Moorea rising sharply behind the thatched roofs. The Hilton faces the lagoon on the northern shore, with Cook's Bay on one side and Opunohu Bay on the other, the two inlets that give the island its shape on the map.

Alongside the overwater bungalows there is a pool and a strip of beach. Moorea sits a short ferry crossing from Tahiti and costs noticeably less than Bora Bora, which makes this a sensible way to try the bungalow experience.

Picolo’s verdict

Why we chose Hilton Moorea Lagoon Resort and Spa

This is our choice on Moorea for anyone who wants to sleep over the water without paying Bora Bora prices. The setting between the bays, with peaks behind and lagoon in front, is about as dramatic as the island gets.

Getting here takes planning. The resort is a long drive from the ferry quay, so you will want a hire car or taxis, and there is not much to walk to beyond the resort itself.

What you get

  • Overwater bungalows on the lagoon
  • Pool by the water
  • Beach on site
  • Mountains behind the resort
  • Hire car advised for the island
