Hôtel Windsor

  • Artist rooms
  • Garden pool
  • Carré d'Or
  • Breakfast outdoors
  • Independent

Behind a plain front in the Carré d'Or lies a garden of palms and a pool, and upstairs no two of the artist rooms look the same.

Breakfast is laid out under the palms, a few steps from the pool, and the city stays on the other side of the building. Walking down Rue Dalpozzo, a regular street in the Carré d'Or district, you would never guess this garden was there.

The Windsor is best known for its artist rooms. Several were created by different artists who painted directly onto the walls, so each has a character of its own. The remaining rooms are plainer, but share the same relaxed, unfussy mood.

Picolo’s verdict

Why we chose Hôtel Windsor

We chose it as the antidote to chain hotels in Nice. You get a room with a point of view, a garden to come back to, and an address between the seafront and the shopping streets.

Character comes before finish here, so expect quirks rather than polish. If you like sleek, uniform rooms, or want to see the sea from your bed, this is the wrong address.

What you get

  • Rooms painted by artists

  • Breakfast in the garden
  • Promenade a short walk away
