Solo Sokos Hotel Torni
Take the lift to the top of an interwar tower and the whole of Helsinki, roofs, spires and sea, spreads out below your glass.
Arrive at the top-floor bar as the light goes and you see why people queue for it. The roofs of the centre, the church domes and the harbour beyond spread out in every direction, and the sea fades to grey on the horizon.
Torni was among the tallest buildings in the city when it went up between the wars, and it still stands out on the skyline. Inside, rooms range widely, from compact and old-fashioned to large and contemporary, so it pays to read the room descriptions carefully.

Picolo’s verdict
Why we chose Solo Sokos Hotel Torni
We chose Torni for the combination of history and that view. Staying in one of the city's landmark buildings, with a bar at the top you could reach in your slippers, is a Helsinki experience few other hotels can offer.
Room quality is uneven. The smallest rooms are tight, so book one of the larger categories if you plan to spend time in the room. Choose Torni for its character and its view, not for consistency.
