Hotel Haven
Wake up to ferries crossing the South Harbour, then walk over the road to Market Square and the boat to Suomenlinna.
Draw the curtains in a water-facing room and the harbour is right there: ferries loading for the islands, gulls over the market stalls, the gold domes of the Uspenski Cathedral across the water. It is the classic Helsinki postcard, seen from bed.
Inside, the mood is warm rather than minimal, with dark wood, heavy curtains and soft furnishings. The bar has made a name for itself with gin, and the staff offer the kind of personal attention that bigger hotels rarely manage.

Picolo’s verdict
Why we chose Hotel Haven
We chose Haven for its position. On a first trip to Helsinki you can be on the Suomenlinna ferry soon after breakfast, at the cathedral before the tour groups and back in a room with a harbour view by mid-afternoon.
Rooms on the street side can catch traffic from the busy road along the harbour, so ask for a water view when you book. The heavy, traditional styling may also feel a little dated if you prefer light Scandinavian interiors.
What you get
- Suomenlinna ferry from the square opposite
- Rooms with views over the harbour
- Bar with a long gin list
- Personal, attentive service
- Warm interiors with dark wood and rich fabrics

How do I get to Suomenlinna from Hotel Haven?
The ferry to the sea fortress leaves from Market Square, just across the road. The crossing is short and the boats are part of the city's public transport, so a regular ticket works.
Is Hotel Haven good for couples?
Yes. The service is personal, the bar suits a quiet drink before dinner, and the harbour setting gives a city break a real sense of occasion.
What is near Hotel Haven?
Market Square and the harbour are directly outside. Senate Square, the white Helsinki Cathedral and the Esplanadi park are all a few minutes away on foot.
