Taveuni Island Resort and Spa
From the edge of the infinity pool, the Somosomo Strait spreads out below, with some of Fiji's best reefs just beneath the surface.
The resort sits high on a slope, and the view does most of the talking: the pool seems to spill straight into the strait, and the water below changes colour as the day moves on.
There are only a few villas, so the staff soon know your name, and the kitchen is a reason to look forward to dinner. Under the strait lie Rainbow Reef and the Great White Wall, famous among divers for their soft corals.

Picolo’s verdict
Why we chose Taveuni Island Resort and Spa
We chose it for divers. The reefs of the Somosomo Strait are close by boat, and coming back to a quiet villa, a good meal and a pool with this view is hard to beat after two dives.
Getting here takes effort, with a domestic flight from Nadi on top of the long journey to Fiji. If you do not dive or snorkel, the quiet days may feel long, and nightlife is non-existent.
