Picolo recommends · Hotel in Sahl Hasheesh, Egypt
The Oberoi
Low white suites set in gardens, a walled courtyard with your own pool, and a jetty out to the reef where the snorkelling starts.
Close the courtyard door and the resort disappears. Many of the suites have their own walled space with a private pool, and with only white stone and sky around you, it feels a long way from the big hotels up the coast.
The Oberoi lies in Sahl Hasheesh, a planned resort bay south of Hurghada. The suites are spread out low across the gardens towards the water, and a jetty takes you over the shallows to the reef.

Picolo’s verdict
Why we chose The Oberoi
This is our romantic pick on the Red Sea. It is quiet, it is private, and the service is among the best in the region. You get real luxury without the size and noise of a mega resort.
Families looking for slides, kids' clubs and entertainment will be bored here. It is also expensive, though the suites are generous, and you are paying for space and calm rather than a long list of activities.
What you get
- Suites, many with a private courtyard
- Private pools in many suites
- Jetty out to the reef
- Gardens down to the sea
- Attentive service
A day at The Oberoi

Do all suites at The Oberoi Sahl Hasheesh have a private pool?
Not all of them. Many suites have a private pool in their courtyard, so check the room category carefully when you book.
Is The Oberoi Sahl Hasheesh good for children?
It is built for calm and privacy, not for children's entertainment. Families who need a water park or a busy programme will be happier elsewhere.
Can you snorkel at The Oberoi Sahl Hasheesh?
Yes. A jetty runs out to the reef in front of the resort, so you can swim with the fish without taking a boat.
