Mandarin Oriental, Prague
A spa set inside a former chapel, with glass underfoot and old excavated walls beneath, on one of the quietest streets in Malá Strana.
Walk across the glass floor of the spa and you look down on ruins uncovered beneath the old chapel. It is the image guests take home from Mandarin Oriental, a hotel that has turned a former monastery into somewhere to slow right down.
The hotel is on Nebovidská, in the southern part of Malá Strana, where the streets are almost residential. A garden lies between the buildings, and even in July it stays still enough to hear the church bells across the district.

Why we chose Mandarin Oriental, Prague
We chose it for rest. Few city hotels give you a spa with this much atmosphere, and the quiet streets mean you can be on Charles Bridge in ten minutes and still sleep as if you were in the countryside.
The calm comes at a cost: evenings around the hotel are quiet, and late dinners mean crossing the river. If you want bars and restaurants outside the door, choose a hotel on the Old Town side.
