Augustine, a Luxury Collection Hotel

  • Former monastery
  • Monastery beer
  • Malá Strana
  • Design
  • Courtyards

Vaulted ceilings, quiet courtyards and a bar pouring monastery beer, in a complex where monks still live in one wing below Prague Castle.

The castle rises right above Letenská, and the hotel sits beneath it in what was an Augustinian monastery. Part of the complex is still home to the order, which gives the courtyards a hush you will not find elsewhere in Malá Strana.

Inside, whitewashed vaults meet carefully chosen modern Czech design, and the mix works. The bar serves beer brewed to the monastery’s tradition, and there is a proper restaurant, so you do not have to cross the river for a good evening.

Picolo’s verdict

Why we chose Augustine, a Luxury Collection Hotel

This is our design pick in Prague. It pairs real history with a confident modern interior, and it lets you stay in the loveliest part of the city without giving up a good bar and restaurant.

The rooms in the older wings vary a lot in shape and size, so say what matters to you when you book. Families with small children may find the monastic calm more of a strain than a pleasure.
