Hotel Peristil
Open the shutters in the right room and the bell tower of Split cathedral fills the window, with the palace's main square below.
The Peristyle is the columned square at the centre of Diocletian's Palace, and Hotel Peristil stands right on it. From some rooms you look straight at the cathedral and its bell tower, which is about as central as Split gets.
It is a small, family-run place, and the rooms are simple and bright rather than grand. That suits travellers who only come back to sleep, shower and change before heading out into the lanes again.

Picolo’s verdict
Why we chose Hotel Peristil
We picked Hotel Peristil as the value choice. You get the same address as the priciest hotels in the palace for noticeably less, and the best rooms look onto a cathedral view you would otherwise pay far more for.
The square that makes it special also keeps it awake. On summer evenings music and voices go on late, so light sleepers should bring earplugs. Those wanting a full-service hotel with extras should look elsewhere.
What you get
- Cathedral views from some rooms
- A personal, family-run welcome
- Simple, bright rooms
- Cafés on the square below
- An address inside the palace walls
A day at Hotel Peristil
- Morning
- Coffee on the Peristyle while the square is still in shade.
- Midday
- Climb the bell tower for a view over the rooftops and harbour.
- Afternoon
- A ferry trip to Brač or a swim at Bačvice.
- Evening
- Back to the square for music under the columns.

Open in MapsQuestions about Hotel Peristil
Does Hotel Peristil have cathedral views?
Some rooms do. Ask for a room facing the Peristyle if you want the cathedral and bell tower in your window, and accept that these rooms are the liveliest.
Is Hotel Peristil noisy at night?
Rooms towards the square can be loud on summer evenings, when music and conversation carry on late. Bring earplugs or ask what quieter rooms are available.
Is Hotel Peristil good value?
For its location, yes. You stay in the middle of Diocletian's Palace for less than at the luxury hotels nearby, with simple rooms rather than extra facilities.
