Cornaro Hotel
From the roof terrace, the bell tower of the cathedral rises above a jumble of old roofs, and Marjan catches the last of the sun.
Cornaro stands a few steps north of Diocletian's Palace, the Roman emperor's retirement home that is now a living part of the old town. The streets around are lined with shops and restaurants, and the palace gates are almost on the doorstep.
Rooms are modern and comfortable, a welcome contrast to the ancient stone outside. The real draw is upstairs: a roof terrace with a bar, looking across the rooftops to the cathedral bell tower.

Picolo’s verdict
Why we chose Cornaro Hotel
For a first visit to Split, this is an easy choice. You get the palace on your doorstep, modern comfort, and a rooftop that ranks among the finest in Split for an evening drink as the sun drops behind Marjan.
The street outside is lively, especially on summer nights. Ask for a room facing the courtyard if you sleep lightly. There is no beach nearby, so plan on a short walk or bus to Bačvice for swimming.
