UXUA Casa Hotel & Spa

  • Quadrado
  • Village houses
  • Garden pool
  • Beach lounge
  • Spa

Your front door opens onto the Quadrado, a lawn of a village square with a white church at the far end and lanterns in the trees after dark.

Barefoot on the grass at dusk, you watch the little restaurants carry their tables out under the trees. The Quadrado is Trancoso's old village square, a long green with a whitewashed church at the end, and UXUA's houses line its edges.

Each house began life as a fisherman's home. They were rebuilt with salvaged timber and the work of local craftspeople, so no two feel alike. Down by the ocean the hotel keeps a lounge on the sand, and back in the garden there is a pool under the palms.

Picolo’s verdict

Why we chose UXUA Casa Hotel & Spa

We chose UXUA because it lets you live inside the village rather than look at it. Dinner is a few steps across the grass, the beach has a place waiting for you, and the houses have a character that a new resort cannot copy.

This is a small and expensive stay, with only a handful of rooms. If you want a big resort with lots to do on site, or you are watching the budget, Trancoso has simpler pousadas, the local guesthouses, that cost far less.

What you get

  • Rooms in restored fishermen's houses

It suits couples and adults looking for a slow pace best. Rooms are few and rates are high, so a larger family may find more space and better value elsewhere.
