Nannai Muro Alto
A reef just offshore turns the Atlantic into a warm, shallow lagoon, and your bungalow often has a pool of its own a few steps from the door.
Small children wade out further than you expect, because the water barely reaches their knees. On Muro Alto beach in Pernambuco, in Brazil's northeast, a reef holds back the swell and leaves the sea flat and clear.
Nannai spreads its bungalows along this shore, many with their own pool, plus a children's club and a choice of places to eat. The reef pools of Porto de Galinhas, the area's best-known sight, are a short drive south.

Picolo’s verdict
Why we chose Nannai Muro Alto
We chose it for families. Calm, shallow water takes the stress out of a beach holiday with small children, and the bungalows give everyone room to spread out after a long day in the sun.
It is a resort rather than a place to discover Brazil, and the drive from Recife airport takes around an hour. Couples hoping for nightlife or a lively town on the doorstep should base themselves in Recife or Olinda.
