Hotel Fasano Rio de Janeiro
A design hotel at the far end of Ipanema, where the rooftop pool looks along the beach to the twin peaks of Dois Irmãos.
From the roof, the whole curve of Ipanema runs out ahead of you, with the two peaks of Dois Irmãos rising at the end. That view, seen from the pool, is what most people remember about Fasano.
Downstairs, the interiors by French designer Philippe Starck mix wood, leather and a touch of the 1950s. The bar on the ground floor draws as many locals as hotel guests, especially after dark.

Picolo’s verdict
Why we chose Hotel Fasano Rio de Janeiro
Fasano is our choice in Ipanema for travellers who care about design and food. It puts you on the beach in the city’s most relaxed neighbourhood, with a bar that is a destination in itself.
You pay a lot for not much space, as the rooms are on the small side. The roof also gets busy around sunset, so swim earlier in the day if you want the pool to yourself.
What you get
- Rooftop pool with beach views
- Ipanema beach across the street
- Rooms designed by Philippe Starck
