The Ocean Club, A Four Seasons Resort

  • White beach
  • Formal gardens
  • Old cloister
  • Dune
  • Couples

Stone terraces climb from a pale beach to a cloister from the 1100s, on the calm stretch of the island facing Nassau across the harbour.

At first light the gardens are empty apart from the birds. Terraces step up from the sand in the formal French style, and at the very top stands a cloister built in the 12th century, taken apart in France and rebuilt here on a Bahamian hillside.

Below lies a long white beach on the least crowded part of the island, well away from the slot machines of Atlantis. Dinner is at Dune, the restaurant of Jean-Georges Vongerichten, and Bond fans will spot corners from Casino Royale.

Picolo’s verdict

Why we chose The Ocean Club, A Four Seasons Resort

We picked it for romance without isolation. The beach and the gardens feel far removed from the big resorts, yet Nassau and the airport are close enough for a long weekend or a last night before the flight home.

The bill is the catch. Few hotels in the Caribbean charge more, and meals push the total up quickly. Families who want slides and a full programme every day will be happier at Atlantis a short drive along the island.

What you get

  • Long white beach on the quiet side of the island
  • Terraced gardens laid out in the Versailles style
  • Medieval cloister at the top of the gardens
  • Dune, the restaurant of Jean-Georges Vongerichten
  • Four Seasons service

Questions about The Ocean Club, A Four Seasons Resort

Was Casino Royale filmed at The Ocean Club?

Yes. Bond fans will know the place: the 2006 film Casino Royale used the resort for several scenes, which is one reason its name travels well beyond the Bahamas.

How far is The Ocean Club from Atlantis?

Both sit on the same small island, but The Ocean Club is on the quieter stretch. Atlantis is a short taxi ride away if you want the casino or a busier beach for a day.

Who runs the restaurant at The Ocean Club?

Chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten is behind Dune, which looks out over the sea, so ask for a table outside around sunset.
