The Calile Hotel
Pale, mid-century style architecture around a long pool lined with cabanas, on a Brisbane street of boutiques and good restaurants.
By late morning the cabanas around the pool fill up and it is hard to believe you are in a city. The Calile is a design hotel on James Street, built in a light, airy style that borrows from the 1950s.
The street outside is lined with boutiques, cafés and restaurants, so lunch and an afternoon of browsing are a few steps from the lobby. The pool, though, is what most guests come back to.

Picolo’s verdict
Why we chose The Calile Hotel
This is our design pick in Brisbane. It turns a city break into something closer to a beach holiday, with a pool day built in and good food on the doorstep.
It is not in the CBD, so you will need a short taxi or rideshare to reach the river and the centre. The pool also draws locals at weekends, so it can be livelier than you might expect.
