Picolo recommends · Hotel in the Whitsundays, Australia
qualia
A pavilion hidden among the trees at the tip of Hamilton Island, with your own plunge pool and the Coral Sea beyond it.
At qualia you do not walk down a corridor to your room. The pavilions are spread out through the bush on the northern point of Hamilton Island, each one turned towards the water, and many come with a plunge pool of their own.
The resort is for adults only, which sets the tone: quiet paths, no splashing children and a pace built around the view. The Whitsundays are a chain of islands off the Queensland coast, at the edge of the Great Barrier Reef.

Picolo’s verdict
Why we chose qualia
This is our choice for a honeymoon or a milestone. Privacy is the real luxury here, and few places in Australia combine a pool of your own, a sea view and the reef on the doorstep in quite the same way.
It costs a great deal, and getting here takes time: most travellers connect through Sydney or Brisbane to reach the island. Families are out of luck, and anyone who wants nightlife should look elsewhere.
