Picolo recommends · Hotel in Shoal Bay East, Anguilla
Zemi Beach House
A spa inside an old Thai house that was brought across the world, a pool under the palms and Shoal Bay East right outside.
The water off Shoal Bay East is at its clearest early in the day, and the reef is close enough to swim out to. Zemi Beach House sits on this beach, with a pool among palm trees and several restaurants a few steps from the sand.
Its spa is the conversation piece: an old house from Thailand, moved here and given a new life. Rooms are large, and several have a terrace facing the sea. Guests give it some of the best reviews on Anguilla.

Picolo’s verdict
Why we chose Zemi Beach House
We chose Zemi for couples. You get a proper spa, good food without leaving the hotel and one of the island's finest beaches, all at Anguilla's eastern end.
Shoal Bay East is popular, and day visitors come for the beach bars, so the sand is not always quiet. If watching the sun sink into the sea matters to you, the west-coast bays are better placed.

Does Zemi Beach House have a spa?
Yes, and an unusual one: the spa is housed in a traditional house from Thailand, relocated to Anguilla and rebuilt at the hotel.
Is there good snorkelling near Zemi Beach House?
Yes. There is a reef off Shoal Bay East. Go in the morning, when visibility is usually at its best and the beach is still quiet.
Is Zemi Beach House good for couples?
It is our couples' pick on Anguilla, thanks to the spa, the restaurants and the beach. Families can stay too, but the mood leans towards two.
