The stone fireplace
The lobby at Copperhill gathers around a great stone fireplace.
The fire is burning in the great stone fireplace in the lobby, and the sun falls on the copper wall and turns the whole room warm. Outside the windows Åreskutan lies in the evening light. You have just skied your last run down to the door, and the spa opens in a quarter of an hour.
The architecture
Copperhill opened in December 2008 and was designed by the American architect Peter Bohlin, who is also behind Apple stores around the world. The building is clad in timber and has a chimney and a curved staircase wall in copper, a nod to the area's mining history. The hotel is a member of Design Hotels.
Location and skiing
The hotel sits in the Björnen area of Åre, high above the village. You clip into your skis outside the door and ski straight into the lift system, and the Copperhill Express lift brings you home again. The cross-country trails at Björnen are close by.

Copperhill has 112 rooms and suites, from doubles to large suites with kitchens that suit groups. The building is laid out so that as many rooms as possible get light and mountain views.

Level Spa was named spa of the year at the European Hotel Design Awards in 2009. There are warm pools both indoors and outdoors, and from the pool you look straight across to Åreskutan.
Who is Copperhill for?
Copperhill suits couples and adults who want a quiet weekend of spa and good days on the slopes. Families can stay here too, especially in the suites, but if you want to be close to the après-ski and life of Åre village, a hotel down in the village is a better choice.
