Sofia is a city you explore on foot. Choose your hotel by what you want outside the door: the cathedral, the main pedestrian street or the park with the mountain behind it.

Best hotels in Sofia in short

The best hotels in Sofia are around the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, along Vitosha Boulevard or by South Park. Our first choice is Hilton Sofia, where we have stayed: a large hotel in the park with a pool and a short walk to the centre. Every hotel on this list is rated 8.8 or higher by guests on Hotels.com (as of October 2026).

Choosing an area

The centre around the cathedral and parliament suits travellers who want to walk everywhere with the sights on the doorstep. Vitosha Boulevard is the main pedestrian street, and staying here puts you in the middle of the evening scene. South Park and the National Palace of Culture are a little further south, with more space and views of the mountain. Everything is within half an hour on foot, so you rarely need a taxi.

Vitosha Boulevard is seven minutes away on foot. Guests rate it 9.0 out of 10.

Best for: staying green with a pool in the building.

When the site was excavated in 2004, archaeologists found the remains of the Roman amphitheatre of Serdica, as Sofia was known in antiquity. Our first choice is Hilton Sofia, where we have stayed, because you sleep in the park and can still walk to the centre. Juno Hotel Sofia has the highest rating on our list, 9.6 out of 10 on Hotels.com. For classic luxury by the sights, InterContinental is a safe choice.

Which hotels in Sofia have a spa and a pool?

How many days do you need in Sofia?

Two to three nights is enough to see the centre and eat well. With three nights you also have time for a day trip to Plovdiv or the Rila Monastery. Sofia works well for a long weekend, and the airport is around 20 minutes from the centre.

Are hotels in Sofia expensive?

Sofia is cheaper than most capitals in western Europe, even for five-star hotels. Prices vary a lot with conferences and holidays, so compare dates before you book. Many travellers use the savings to book a better room than they would at home.
