In short: golf holidays

For spring and autumn golf, the Algarve and Belek are the easiest choices, with plenty of courses, warmth and short transfers. For classic golf, Scotland and Ireland are best from May to September. In 2027 The Open comes to St Andrews in July and the Ryder Cup to Adare in September.

Our first choice: Conrad Algarve, with three courses minutes away. Check availability and prices

The first tee shot of the morning, dew on the fairway and a whole day ahead. A golf holiday is about the courses, but just as much about where you stay, how far you are from the first tee and what you do after the round.

We have gathered the golf hotels from all our golf guides in one place, with our first choice for each destination.

How to choose a golf holiday

  • Championships in 2027: The Open in July or the Ryder Cup in September.

Conrad Algarve

Conrad Algarve is the golf hotel we would recommend first for a golf holiday. It stands on the edge of Quinta do Lago, with three courses minutes away and Faro Airport a quarter of an hour from the door. After the round there is the spa and the pool terrace, and in the evening you eat well without getting in the car. It suits a serious golf week as well as a trip where not everyone plays every day.

Golf holidays: your questions answered

Where is the best place for a golf holiday?

The Algarve and Belek are best for warm-weather golf in spring and autumn, with plenty of courses and short airport transfers. Scotland and Ireland are best for classic links in summer. If you want to watch, The Open comes to St Andrews and the Ryder Cup to Adare in 2027.

When is the best time for a golf holiday?

For the Algarve and Belek, March to May and October to November are best, with comfortable warmth. For Scotland and Ireland, May to September is best, with long light days. Summer gets very hot in the south, so tee off early if you travel then.

Can I book a golf hotel without a golf package?

Yes, every hotel we recommend can be booked as a regular stay. Tee times are booked directly with the course or through reception. That leaves you free to choose your own courses, but remember that green fees come on top of the room rate.

Do I need a handicap for a golf holiday?

Many of the well-known courses ask for a handicap certificate, and some set a maximum handicap. Bring proof from your club and check each course's rules before booking a tee time. Smaller courses and practice facilities usually welcome everyone, including beginners keen to learn.

Which golf holiday suits families?

The Algarve and Belek suit families best, with beaches, pools and hotels with children's clubs. Martinhal Quinta in the Algarve and Titanic Deluxe in Belek are designed for families. That way one person can play golf while the rest enjoy a normal holiday.
