Our verdict

What Picolo chooses: October for a warm sea and long beach days, and February or March for winter sun outside half term.

Why: October averages highs of 26°C with the sea around 22°C, and March has 233 hours of sun and fewer than two rain days.

The trade-off: the wind is part of the deal. If you want calm water, stay in Caleta de Fuste or Corralejo rather than Sotavento.
