Legoland Billund with kids: Lalandia and the hotels we would book
When the gates open, the youngest make straight for Duplo Land. Here is how to plan Legoland Billund with kids, and the hotels that keep the walk to the parks short.

Billund is a small town in the middle of Jutland, with an airport, the headquarters of the LEGO Group and two parks that sit almost side by side. Legoland and Lalandia draw families from across Scandinavia and beyond, and the town has grown up around them.
That makes your choice of hotel matter more than it would in a city. Stay by the park and you can go back for a nap and return afterwards. Stay in Vejle and you get forest and fjord thrown in, but you drive every morning.
In short
Hotel Legoland is our first choice in Billund: it has its own entrance to the park and breakfast is included. Lalandia works best if you stay a week and want to cook, as every holiday home has a kitchen. For the fjord, Vejle is about half an hour away.

By the parks: Legoland and Lalandia
Three of the hotels are close enough to the parks that the car can stay parked all week. You pay more than in Vejle, but you save the driving and get longer days in the park.

The dragon in the lobby

Hotel Legoland
The hotel stands at the entrance to Legoland and has its own door into the park. A green dragon built from LEGO bricks looms over the lobby stairs, so the children have met their first model before you have your key card.
It suits families with children aged three to ten who want the whole day in the park and a short walk to bed. Breakfast is included and two restaurants on site sort out supper. Quiet it is not: the lobby is full of children from morning to night.

A castle for the night

Legoland Castle Hotel
The hotel is built as a knight’s castle, with towers, battlements and a dining hall under vaulted arches. It sits right by the park, and here it is the castle, not the rollercoasters, that the children point at first.
It suits children going through a knights or princesses phase, and parents who want breakfast included. A night or two here makes a fine high point on a longer trip through Jutland.

Your own kitchen, your own door

Lalandia Billund
Lalandia is a holiday park built around an indoor water park of palms and slides, with low holiday homes laid out in long rows. Every home has a kitchen and a washing machine, and Legoland is a few minutes away.
It suits families staying a week who want breakfast at their own pace and somewhere to go when it rains. The water park is open all year, including when Legoland is closed for winter.

On Vejle Fjord: a holiday for the grown-ups too
Vejle is about half an hour from Billund by car. Here you stay among beech woods and by the fjord, and a long day at the park ends with a quiet evening.

The fjord from the terrace

Munkebjerg Hotel
Munkebjerg sits high in the woods above Vejle Fjord, and from the terrace you see the water and the town below. The hotel has a spa, and the golf course is next door.
Munkebjerg suits families with older children best, or trips where the grandparents come along and want a little luxury after the park days. Breakfast and parking are included.

Comwell Kellers Park
The hotel stands on Vejle Fjord at Brejning, in white buildings set in large grounds that run down to the water. Breakfast, wifi and parking are included.
A good choice for families who want space around them and a walk down to the fjord before supper. Legoland is about 40 minutes away by car.

More to do in Billund with kids
LEGO House in the centre of Billund opened in 2017 and is open all year. Children build for themselves here, and the youngest can design their own fish and watch it swim in a digital aquarium.
Legoland opens from spring to autumn, with Halloween as the last big weekend before it closes for winter. Check the opening days before you fix your dates, especially in April and October.
Getting there
Billund Airport is a couple of kilometres from Legoland, and there are direct flights from the UK. The journey ends almost at the gates, and a taxi or bus covers the last stretch.
Good to know before you book
Choose your base by age. Small children sleep best close to the park, older ones cope with the drive from Vejle.
Plan a water park day. A day at Lalandia between two Legoland days rests tired legs, and the water park is ideal when it rains.
Buy park tickets online. Tickets bought in advance are often cheaper than at the gate.
Frequently asked questions
Where is the best place to stay for Legoland Billund?
Hotel Legoland is the best choice for most families, because it has its own entrance to the park and breakfast is included. If you are staying a full week, Lalandia gives you more space, with a kitchen and washing machine in every holiday home. Vejle suits families who want to mix park days with woods, fjord and calmer evenings.
How far is Lalandia from Legoland?
Lalandia and Legoland are a few minutes apart in Billund, so it is easy to visit both on the same trip. A common plan is to stay at Lalandia and spend one or two days at Legoland. Staying by the parks, you will rarely need a car, but a pushchair helps on the long paths.
When is Legoland Billund open?
Legoland Billund is open from spring until early November and closes for the winter. Opening days change from year to year, so check the park calendar before you book a hotel. Lalandia and LEGO House are open all year and make good alternatives in the February half-term.
How many days do you need at Legoland Billund?
Three or four nights is enough for most families: two days at Legoland, one at Lalandia and half a day at LEGO House. With small children it pays to plan a quiet day in the middle. With a week, you also have time for Vejle or the west coast of Jutland.
