The fireworks at the Burj Khalifa are among the best-known New Year shows in the world. Huge crowds gather in Downtown, and the roads around close early. Stay in a hotel with a view and you skip the queues and watch the show from your balcony or the pool.
The rooms with a view go early, often months ahead. If you would rather celebrate by the beach, the alternatives are further down.

Fireworks elsewhere in Dubai
The Burj Khalifa has the biggest show, but not the only one. There are fireworks on Palm Jumeirah at Atlantis, at the Burj Al Arab and at Global Village too. By the beach the crowds are often smaller and getting home is easier.

Frequently asked questions about New Year's Eve in Dubai
Where is the best place to see the fireworks in Dubai?
The best view is from Downtown, around the Burj Khalifa and the lake with the fountains. Address Downtown, Address Sky View and Palace Downtown all look out at the tower. The public viewing areas fill up early, so arrive hours before midnight. To avoid the crowds, there are also fireworks on Palm Jumeirah and at the Burj Al Arab.
When should you book a hotel for New Year's Eve in Dubai?
As early as you can. The rooms facing the Burj Khalifa are among the first to go, and prices rise as New Year gets closer. Many hotels charge more over New Year and may require a stay of several nights. If you choose a rate with free cancellation, you can secure the room early and change your plans later.
Is Downtown crowded on New Year's Eve?
Yes, Downtown is one of the busiest places in Dubai that night. The roads around the Burj Khalifa close from the afternoon, and the metro station at Dubai Mall can close early when it gets full. If you stay in a hotel in the area, you can walk back after the show. With children along, a hotel with a view can be worth the price.
Does the Dubai Metro run on New Year's Eve?
Yes. Last New Year's Eve the metro ran all night without a break. Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall station could close from 5pm if it got too busy, and Financial Centre and Business Bay are good alternatives then. Check the times with the RTA before you travel, because the plan is announced in December.
Can you see fireworks from the beach in Dubai?
Yes, though not the one at the Burj Khalifa. The Burj Al Arab and Palm Jumeirah have fireworks of their own, with smaller crowds than in Downtown. Jumeirah Al Naseem is on the beach with views of the Burj Al Arab. It is a good choice if you want to celebrate with your feet in the sand and skip the queues in the city.
